BioHak---compute time
  • I've been loking for compute resources for a project I am working on. I would like to buy compute time or make a donation to a school for cpu time.

My benchmarks on dual-opteron 248's lead me to believe the job will run about 3 months on a 24 node cluster...

Any suggestions where to search to purchase compute time would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
  • You could try the Sun Grid (http://www.sun.com/service/sungrid/overview.jsp)

Also, look into some of the national labs or universities with supercomputers. Some of them will allow you to rent time.
  • Many Thanks... I just got back from the Greater Philadelphia Bioinformatics Alliance's annual retreat and found two potential clusters to target...

Also been looking at tsunamictechnoligies.com. They're charging $1100 per month for up to 8000 cpu hours.

Anyone know if this is a good rate?

    Much Gras.
  • Hi:

I just found your post. We can offer compute time. What application do you need to run?

  • and....if your job happens to be a BLAST job and you are estimating 24 nodes because it's a scalability limit, we have far exceeded that limit on hundreds of nodes and could dramatically reduce your time to answer. • Hi Kathlenerickson,

Do you provide compute time to others as well. Is this free for academics? I need nodes for my project as well put can't pay for them because I work for an academic institute.
